watering

Sedge (Carex x neomiliaris) should be watered thoroughly when first planted, and then about once a week afterwards. Watering is best done early in the morning or late in the evening, when the air is cooler. When the weather is extremely hot, it may be beneficial to water more often to help the plant regulate its temperature. The soil should be moist, but never soggy. Aim to water deeply in order to deliver water to the roots, as opposed to shallow watering which may only moisten the surface. Water slowly to give the plants adequate time to absorb the moisture, and try to avoid creating pooling around the plants.

sunlight

Sedge (Carex x neomiliaris) is a plant species that thrives in direct sunlight. For optimal growth, it requires at least 4 to 5 hours of direct sunlight each day. During the summer months, when the daylight lasts the longest, this species of sedge should get at least 8 to 10 hours of direct sunlight for optimal growth. It is worth noting that if the plant is exposed to too much sunlight, it may become stressed or burned. Therefore, providing some shade during the hottest hours of the day, particularly during midday, will help keep the plant healthy.

pruning

Sedge (Carex x neomiliaris) should be pruned twice a year, in early spring and late fall. In spring, prune the plants back to 6-8" tall, removing any dead or damaged foliage. In fall, cut back tips of late-season growth to the height desired, usually about 8-10" tall. If the plants start to crowd each other, use thinning shears to thin out some of the excess foliage. Make the cuts at a 45 degree angle, leaving the plants with a rounded shape and removing any dead or damaged growth. Doing a light pruning ensures the plants stay healthy and vigorous.
