Northern Golden Carpet

Water Northern Golden Carpet plants regularly during the growing season, usually once or twice a week, so that the soil never fully dries out. Check the soil's moisture level by inserting your finger an inch or so into the soil. If the soil feels dry, water the plant until water runs out of the drainage holes on the bottom of the pot. During the winter, when the plant is dormant, reduce the amount of water you give it, watering only when the soil has become partially dry.

Northern Golden Carpet (Chrysosplenium tetrandrum) is a low-growing creeping plant that prefers moist, shady areas. It performs best when provided with partial sun but can tolerate full shade. In partial sun conditions, it should receive 6 to 8 hours of indirect sunlight per day. The best time of the day for it to receive that sunlight is mid morning to late afternoon, when the sunlight is indirect and not too intense. In full shade, Northern Golden Carpet will not need as much sunlight, if any at all, so no direct sunlight during these hours is necessary.

Northern Golden Carpet (Chrysosplenium tetrandrum) is a shrubby species of plant that should be pruned when the foliage begins to look tired and overgrown--typically in late summer or early autumn. Pruning should generally be light, as this plant is not a strong re-grower. Trim off withered or dead stems and lightly shape the remaining foliage for a pleasing appearance. Deadheading can be useful for tidying the plant, as can judicious pruning of errant shoots to maintain an attractive shape.
