watering

Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blaze') should be watered once per week during the growing season and every other week during the dormant season. When providing water, be sure to give enough to soak the root zone. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, and water until the water has reached a depth of around 4-6 inches. Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blaze') is a hardy plant, and is drought tolerant and not very susceptible to over watering or root rot.

sunlight

Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blaze') is a perennial grass that grows best in full sunlight. It is best to provide 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day and should be placed in a location that receives full sun. It does have some tolerance to partial shade, however, and can still grow with only 4-6 hours of direct sunlight.

pruning

Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blaze') responds well to hard pruning, however this should generally be done in spring before the new growth begins. Prune back the leaves to around half of the original foliage to encourage dense, strong new shoots. Pruning should be done in stages, starting with about 10–20% of the old leaves and producing more dramatic pruning on subsequent years as the plant matures. When removing the leaves, make sure to cut back up to the base of the plant.
