watering

Atlas broom (Argyrocytisus battandieri) should be watered moderately and on a regular basis. In the spring and summer months, the plant should be watered thoroughly, once a week or every 10 days. During the hottest periods, it should be watered twice a week. In the autumn and winter months, reduce the watering frequency and only water deeply when the soil appears dry to the touch.

sunlight

Atlas broom (Argyrocytisus battandieri) needs approximately 10-12 hours of direct sunlight per day, spread out over the course of morning and early afternoon hours. This species does best when it has access to full-sun exposure all day, however, light shade for a few hours in the mid-afternoon can provide relief in the case of extreme summer temperatures. As with most plants, it should not be directly exposed to harsh, direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day (noon - 3 pm).

pruning

Atlas broom, also known as Argyrocytisus battandieri, should be pruned in late winter or early spring before bud break. Pruning should be done with sharp and clean tools and, depending on the size of the bush, it can involve removing up to 1-third of the older, weaker canes from the center of the shrub. Dead, diseased or damaged branches should also be removed at this time. In addition, any unruly branches that have grown too much can also be removed to maintain a more manageable size.
