Bluebeard (Caryopteris clandonensis 'Summer Sorbet') should be watered when the top 2-3 inches of soil is dry. During active growth, water approximately twice a week. During cooler, winter months (November to March), the plant may only need to be watered once a month. Water until the soil is thoroughly soaked, then allow the surface to dry slightly before watering again.

Bluebeard (Caryopteris clandonensis 'Summer Sorbet') prefers to receive full sunlight for a minimum of 6-8 hours per day, preferably in the morning or late afternoon. While this species can tolerate some shade, it requires bright sunlight in order to thrive and produce the vibrant, colorful blooms it is known for. To achieve the best results, bluebeard should be planted in an area of your garden that receives full sun during the hottest part of the day, from approximately 10am-4pm.

Bluebeard plants (Caryopteris clandonensis 'Summer Sorbet') should be pruned once per year, in early spring. Pruning should be done after the threat of frost has passed, and the plant is actively growing new shoots. The pruning should consist of removing any dead, diseased, or damaged stems, or any that appear crowded or out of place. When new growth appears, cut back the branches by 1 third, to keep the plant's size in check. Pruning Bluebeard in this manner will encourage healthier, thicker foliage.
