Ideally, water should be applied at the base of the plant and allowed to slowly soak into the soil at a depth of up to 8 inches. Check the soil moisture by pressing your finger into the top 1-2 inches. If the soil is still damp, then no additional water should be applied. If the soil feels dry, then lightly water until the soil is just moist.
