watering

Baby's Breath should be watered lightly on a regular basis. During the summer months, water the plants every 5-7 days, letting the soil dry slightly between waterings. During the winter, water every 7-10 days. It can be beneficial to water in the morning before the sun is too strong, to prevent the leaves from burning. Give the plants a good drenching when watering them, then allow the soil to dry out before watering again. If your plants are growing in a pot, use a potting soil that drains well and water thoroughly when the top surface of the soil looks dry.

sunlight

Baby's breath (Gypsophila paniculata 'Bristol Fairy') prefers bright, indirect sunlight. It blooms best when it receives at least 6 hours of bright, indirect light each day. When grown indoors, it is best to place the plant near a bright, south-facing window or previously mentioned to get the adequate light it needs. During the late spring and summer months, the plant can be moved outside to a spot in the garden that receives partial shade during its blooming season. It is important to be mindful not to place the plant in direct sunlight as this can cause leaf burn, diminishing its beautiful blooming potential.

pruning

Baby’s Breath can be pruned heavily in late winter or early spring. The ideal time to prune is when the coldest temperatures have passed but before active growth begins. To maintain a compact shape, begin by removing any dead, damaged or diseased branches, and then shape the plant by removing some of the older growth. Thinning out approximately 1-third of the entire plant will promote lush growth and flowering the following season. When pruning Baby’s Breath, it’s important to be mindful of your intent. If you are pruning to shape or to encourage flowering, only remove upward facing flowering branches.
