watering

Hellebore plants require regular watering to keep their soil moist, but not soggy. During the spring and summer months, water the plants deeply once a week if there has been no rain. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, and reduce watering to once every 2 weeks in the fall. During the winter, water only once a month. Avoid getting the foliage of the Hellebore wet, as this can lead to fungus and disease.

sunlight

Hellebore plants need at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Ideally, they should be planted so that they get morning sun and afternoon shade. They do best in part shade, such as in a spot at the edge of a garden. During the summer months, they should be placed in an area that gets some afternoon shade, which will prevent them from becoming too hot or drying out. Depending on the exact type of hellebore, some may be able to tolerate full sun, however this generally isn't recommended.

pruning

Hellebores (Helleborus orientalis 'Millet Hybrids') should be pruned annually, usually in the early spring. Pruning consists of deadheading spent flowers, cutting off leaves that have become tattered or diseased, and removing any dead or weakened stems. When pruning, it is important to use sharp shears as it will create a clean cut and reduce damage to the plant. Be sure to leave some flowers on the plant as they will provide the future blooms. After pruning, feed the plant with a balanced fertilizer to help it produce more flowers.
