watering

False yucca generally requires moderate watering. In the summer months, water your false yucca about twice a week, giving it enough water to reach a depth of 8 to 12 inches while allowing the soil to dry somewhat. In the winter, you should cut back to about once a week or even every 2 weeks, but water it well, so that the entire root system gets soaked. Be careful not to over water, as this will cause the plant to develop root rot.

sunlight

False Yucca (Hesperaloe parviflora) generally prefers full sun, so ideally this species should receive at least 8-10 hours of direct sunlight per day. It can tolerate light shade conditions, but there may be a reduction in flowering. The brightest light usually occurs during the day between 10am and 4pm when the sun is almost overhead, so it's best to give the plant a full day of direct sun if possible. Longer periods of direct sun can be beneficial, especially during the summer months when overall sunlight is more intense.

pruning

False yucca plants can benefit from pruning, which provides the opportunity to shape the plant and promote new growth. Pruning should be done in the spring and summer months with sharp, sterilized tools to prevent the spread of disease. To achieve a desired shape, the general practice is to prune off up to 1-third of the plant. Care should be taken to remove only dead or diseased stems, and any excess foliage or single buds. Pruning is especially helpful for encouraging fuller blooming and for removing any frost-damaged foliage. To ensure healthy growth, any pruning for false yucca plants should be done regularly and carefully.
