watering

Coral bells need regular watering to stay healthy and vibrant. The frequency and amount of watering needed will depend on soil type, light intensity, and temperature. They prefer to stay on the dry side, so in the warmer months, water only when the top inch or 2 of soil is dry. In the cooler months, water deeply about once every 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the soil conditions. Avoid over-watering, as this will cause root rot.

sunlight

Coral bells (Heuchera 'Forever Red') should receive full to partial sun for 6 to 8 hours per day depending on the season. In the summer, this plant should receive morning sunlight, as the intense afternoon sun can cause the leaves to scorch. In winter, it can tolerate a few hours of direct sunlight during the day.

pruning

Coral bells should be pruned in late winter or early spring, after the coldest winter months have passed and when new growth appears. Remove any dead or diseased leaves, as well as any yellowing or dark leaves. Cut back the remaining stems by a third of their current length to encourage new basal growth and to help control the size of the plant. If desired, a light trimming after blooming is also beneficial to keep the shape of the plant manageable. In general, avoid heavy pruning of the foliage to preserve the natural beauty of the coral bells.
