watering

Coral bells should be watered regularly, but not too much or too often. Water the soil 1-2 times a week, or whenever the soil is dry down to a couple of inches below the surface. Let the soil dry out between waterings, and water deeply enough during each session that water runs out the bottom of the pot. This will help the plant absorb necessary nutrients and encourage deeper roots. Make sure to avoid getting the leaves wet, as this can cause disease. If the foliage starts to look limp or wilted, give it a drink.

sunlight

Coral bells require 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day. They prefer morning sun, and will do best if they receive several hours of shade or filtered sunlight during the afternoon. In areas with intense heat, they may need to be placed in a spot that does not receive direct sunlight all day.

pruning

Coral bells should be pruned in early spring, just as new growth appears. Prune the plant back lightly, removing any brown or withered growth and untidy stems. The amount of pruning will depend on the size and shape of the desired outcome. Prune lightly in order to preserve the mounded shape of the shrub, cutting it back from the outside in order to create the desired shape and size. In general, prune no more than 1-third of the Coral bells plant in any 1 season.
