watering

Hosta 'Dragon Tails' plants should be watered most frequently during the late spring and summer months when the weather is warmer. Aim to water the plants once or twice per week, making sure the soil stays consistently moist but never soggy. During the cooler fall months, water more sparingly, only when the top several inches of soil is dry. As weather turns colder in winter, reduce watering to only when the soil is nearly dry.

sunlight

Hosta 'Dragon Tails' plants require full to partial sunlight. They need at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight per day, preferably morning sun, with some afternoon shade. When ideally situated in a lightly-shaded garden with consistently moist soil, they can thrive in full sun. It is important to note, however that as with all Hosta species, the foliage should never be allowed to become sunburned, as this will cause discoloration and/or death of the foliage. When growing Hosta 'Dragon Tails' during the hottest periods of the summer, it is best to provide ample amounts of shade during the hottest times of the day.

pruning

Hosta 'Dragon Tails' should be pruned in the spring, after the last spring frost. Prune back about 1-third of the previous season's growth. Remove any dead, wilted, or diseased foliage and thin out any dense growth. If needed, lightly prune away new shoots, making sure to leave several healthy buds for future growth. Pruning Hosta 'Dragon Tail' will encourage the growth of more vigorous foliage and helps to prevent disease.
