watering

Hosta 'Vim and Vigor' should be watered deeply, about once or twice a week. During the hottest part of the summer, water more often. Be sure to give the root system plenty of water so that the soil is moist but not soggy. Watering should be done early in the morning to reduce evaporation and allow time for the foliage to dry during the day. It is best to water at the base of the plant to prevent fungal diseases from settling in the foliage.

sunlight

Hosta 'Vim and Vigor' plants prefer a moist, partial to full shade planting area that receives 2 to 4 hours of direct sunlight, mostly in the morning, and 4 to 6 hours of indirect sunlight throughout the day. During hot summer months, dappled shade is best for this particular plant species. Too much direct sunlight during the summer months may dry out the soil or cause the leaves to yellow and scorch.

pruning

Pruning of Hosta 'Vim and Vigor' is recommended during the early spring, typically March or April before the leaf buds form. Hostas can be lightly pruned during the summer months as well to maintain the desired size and shape. Prune only the foliage and flowers to maintain the desired height and shape of the plant; do not prune the root system of the hosta. To prune, use sharp, clean shears and cut back the foliage to the desired length. Remove dead, dried, or diseased foliage to maintain plant health and vigor. Pruning should be kept to a minimum as the roots have the potential to re-sprout from old wood.
