Smooth hydrangeas should be kept evenly moist, but not overly wet. A good rule of thumb is to water deeply once per week and let the soil dry out slightly between waterings. They also appreciate regular misting to provide extra humidity. Ideally, you should water them from the bottom rather than overhead, as this will help to prevent fungal spots on the leaves. Water in the morning hours to avoid excess evaporation. In hot weather, you may need to water them more often. During dormancy, water only occasionally, just enough to keep the root ball slightly moist.

Smooth Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens 'Abetwo' INCREDIBALL) prefers full sun or partial shade. When planted in full sun, it needs at least 4 to 5 hours of direct sunlight each day in order to stay healthy and flower profusely. In partial shade, it benefits from 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day. Smooth Hydrangea also does well under dappled shade and can tolerate a few hours of full shade each day if needed.

Smooth hydrangeas (Hydrangea arborescens 'Abetwo' INCREDIBALL) should be pruned back in late winter or early spring, before new growth appears. Pruning can be done either by thinning out the canopy or cutting back the stems to a desired shape. Thin out the canopy by removing any branches that are too crowded or that cross or rub up against each other. Cut back shoots to promote lateral branching and to create a full, rounded shape. The stems can also be cut back anywhere from 8-24 inches depending on the desired shape and size.
