watering

The Hollywood juniper should be watered deeply and regularly to ensure its health and growth. It should be watered once or twice every week depending on the time of year. During spring and summer, when the weather is warm and the plant is actively growing, more frequent watering is recommended. In fall and winter, the soil should still remain moist, so water your juniper only when the top inch of soil is dry. Make sure that when you water, you provide enough water for the entire root system to be thoroughly soaked. You can check if the water is reaching the roots by checking the moisture level of the soil with your finger.

sunlight

Hollywood juniper (Juniperus chinensis 'Kaizuka') plants prefer bright, indirect sunlight. Ideal lighting conditions include 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, although these plants can also thrive in shaded areas with filtered light. When in direct sunlight, Hollywood juniper should only be exposed to sunlight during the morning or late afternoon, avoiding the full intensity of afternoon sun. During the winter months, the amount of direct sunlight should be reduced to just 2 to 4 hours per day.

pruning

Hollywood juniper should be pruned in late spring or early summer. Pruning should remove damaged or diseased branches, as well as any that cross over and are overcrowding the center of the plant. Additionally, excess branches should be pruned to thin the canopy and encourage new branch growth. When pruning, aim to remove up to 1-third of the growth from each branch.
