watering

Asiatic lilies (Lilium 'Holean AMERICA') require regular watering throughout their growing season. During the initial growth stages, water the plant deeply every 7-10 days. As the plant enters the flowering stage, water it more frequently, every 3-5 days. It is important to never let the soil become overly dry or soggy. During periods of hotter weather, you may need to water more often. Apply enough water that some drains from the base of the pot after each watering. Once the flowering is complete, reduce the amount of water given to allow the lilies to enter dormancy. Water enough to keep the soil slightly moist, but not soggy.

sunlight

Asiatic lilies (Lilium 'Holean' AMERICA) prefer full sun for 6 to 8 hours a day for optimal growth and flowering. Plant these lilies in an area of the garden that gets direct morning sun and preferably some dappled sun during the hottest portion of the day. If planted in an area with partial shade, they may still grow and bloom, but not as vigorously as they would if grown in full sunlight. Keep in mind that Asiatic lilies do not tolerate wet feet, so make sure the area chosen for planting has adequate drainage.

pruning

It is recommended that Asiatic lily (Lilium 'Holean' AMERICA) be pruned to about 8 inches tall by removing the older stems each year just before new growth appears in late spring. This will help encourage larger blooms. After this initial pruning, deadheading should be done regularly throughout the growing season (May to August) to remove faded blooms and keep the plant looking its best. Additionally, it is best to remove the seed heads in late autumn to reduce unwanted self-seeding.
