The longiflorum Asiatic lily ('Royal Sunset') should be watered once or twice a week, depending on the local climate and conditions. In warmer, drier climates, it may need to be watered more frequently. Ensure that the soil is moist but not soggy; it should never be allowed to dry out completely. Water the plants thoroughly and deeply to a depth of at least 6 inches, allowing the water to penetrate the soil and reach the lily’s roots. If possible, try to use rainwater, as it is the best choice for these plants. During the summer months the lilies may need more frequent watering, as temperatures and humidity increase.

Longiflorum-Asiatic lilies should be pruned twice a year: once at the beginning of spring, and again in late autumn. During the spring pruning session, cut off any dead or damaged leaves and stems. Remove any that appear dry, yellowed, wilted, or dead. Cut the stems down to about 6 inches from the ground. In the late autumn, trim the plant so that only 12 to 15 flowering stems remain. Make your cuts just below the flower bud, and shape the remaining stems upward.
