watering

Asiatic lilies should be watered deeply and evenly. Generally, it's best to water the plant once every week to 10 days. Aim to provide about 1 inch of water per week during the warmer months of the growing season. During cooler months, allow the soil to dry between waterings. It is best to water at ground level, directly onto the soil surface (avoid wetting the leaves and stems). Also, installing a soaker hose beneath the mulch or in the bed's sides can help ensure the Asiatic Lily's depths and sides are being evenly watered.

sunlight

Asiatic lilies like the 'Sterling Star' variety require at least 5 to 6 hours of direct sunlight every day for best performance. It is preferable, however, if they get up to 8 hours per day, as long as it is filtered light or morning and evening sun and not intense, direct midday sun. Alternatively, providing the lilies with dappled or diffused sunlight (maybe from a tree canopy) for the hotter parts of the day is also beneficial.

pruning

Asiatic lilies (Lilium 'Sterling Star') should be pruned in late summer after flowering is finished, or in early spring before new growth begins. The stems should be trimmed back to a healthy bud located approximately 6 inches above the soil. Deadheading should also be done after flowering. This involves pinching off any wilting or discolored flower heads. Additionally, old flowers and stems can also be removed to encourage new growth.
