Tulip tree needs watering every 1-2 weeks in late spring and summer with about 1-3 inches of water at each application. It is important to make sure that the soil is moist, but not waterlogged. To check the moisture levels, stick your finger in the soil at least an inch deep. If the soil is dry, it is time to water. In autumn and winter, water less frequently, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.

The Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipifera 'Aureo-marginatum' MAJESTIC BEAUTY) requires at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. To achieve optimal growth and flowering, it should be located in an area where it will receive full sun in the late morning and afternoon hours. During the hottest months of summer, the plant may benefit from some afternoon shade.

Tulip trees should be pruned in late winter or early spring while the tree is still actively dormant. Pruning should be done with sharp, clean pruners. Start by removing dead, diseased, or damaged branches as well as any branches that are growing in inappropriate directions. Also remove branches that are crossing each other and rubbing against each other, as well as those that are growing downward (away from the leader) or inward (toward the center of the tree). The goal should be to open up the canopy and maintain a symmetrical shape and uniform size. After removing undesirable branches, selectively thin branches to maintain a healthy balance of foliage and structure. Young trees require fewer prunings; however, the average mature tree can benefit from annual pruning.
