watering

Pavonia plants should be watered regularly but sparingly. Water the plants every 3-4 days with enough water to moisten the soil slightly. During the summer months, water more frequently to prevent excessive heat or dryness. In the winter, water less as the cooler temperatures don't require as much moisture. Monitor the soil and adjust accordingly if you find that the soil is too wet. Allow the soil to dry out levels before watering. Pavonia plants enjoy humid climates, so it is important to mist the leaves in order to provide extra moisture.

sunlight

Pavonia (Pavonia cymbalaria) thrives best in sunlight and requires approximately 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Pavonia cymbalaria will grow well in full sun to part shade. However, when growing in full sun the plant should be given regular waterings to keep the soil moist and prevent the leaves from scorching in the sun. For the best results, plant it in a spot that gets morning sun followed by shade in the afternoons. This will enable the plant to benefit from the sunlight without getting burned.

pruning

Pavonia (Pavonia cymbalaria) should be pruned twice a year, once in the early spring and then again in late summer or early fall. In the spring, prune branches lightly to open up the center of the plant for better air circulation and new growth. Remove any dead or diseased branches at this time. In the late summer or early fall, prune the entire plant back quite heavily to shape and control the size, Be sure to leave 2-3 healthy stem nodes(sets of leaves) remaining to give the plant buds for next year's growth.
