Cape fuchsia

Cape fuchsia requires regular watering, especially when first establishing its root system. You should water the plant approximately twice per week, providing enough water to moisten the soil, but not to the point of saturation. If the top inch of soil is dry, then the plant needs to be watered. During its active growing season in spring and summer, the plant needs to be kept consistently moist. In fall and winter, however, the watering should be decreased to once every week or 2 to let the soil dry out slightly. Always monitor the soil moisture content and adjust your watering routine accordingly.

Cape fuchsia (Phygelius 'Lemon Spritzer') should receive a minimum of 4-5 hours of full, direct sunlight a day for optimal growth and flowering. If planted in a spot that receives less sunlight, the plant can tolerate a few hours less, but may not reach its full potential. The best time of day for this plant to receive full sun is during the morning hours, when the temperatures are not yet at their hottest. In cooler climates, the plant may also benefit from some afternoon sun.

Cape fuchsia (Phygelius 'Lemon Spritzer') should be pruned lightly in the late winter/early spring. This should include trimming away any dead or damaged leaves or stems and removing spent flowers. Pruning can also help keep the plant from becoming too woody and encourage a more compact shape. If pruned too hard, growth and flowering will be reduced. Be sure to use sharp, clean pruners and sterilize them between each cut.
