Pittosporum 'Garnettii' requires medium waterings of once or twice a week during the peak of the growing season in spring and summer. It is best to water until the soil feels moist but not soggy, and allow the top inch of soil to become slightly dry between waterings. In drier, cooler months, such as winter, the Pittosporum 'Garnettii' should be watered less often, about every 2-3 weeks. It is better to err on the side of slightly underwatering the plant than overwatering it, as Pittosporum 'Garnettii' is sensitive to poor drainage and over-saturation.

Pittosporum 'Garnettii' requires daytime with at least 6-7 hours of direct sunlight each day. This type of plant thrives in areas where temperatures are moderate and the air is relatively humid. Additionally, Pittosporum 'Garnettii' does well when provided with some partial sun during the day, such as light filtered through trees or when placed near a South-facing window. On warmer days, it may be necessary to provide this plant with some additional shade in order to protect it from extreme heat.

Pittosporum 'Garnettii' should be pruned twice a year; once in late winter (February or March) and again in mid-summer (July or August). Pruning should be done only as much as necessary. Excessive pruning may reduce flowering or cause the plant to become leggy. During the winter prune, remove any stems that are broken, diseased, or damaged. Cut back any side shoots that are larger than 2 inches in diameter, and cut back any stems that have grown significantly longer than the desired height. During the summer prune, selectively remove over-crowded branches and any shoots that have developed which detract from the form and shape of the plant. Pruning should be kept mild to moderate. Pittosporum 'Garnettii' should not be excessively trimmed; this may cause damage to the plant in the long run.
