watering
Water lungwort plants twice a week in spring and autumn, when there is no rain. Increase this to 3 times a week during the hottest part of the summer when the plants are actively growing. Water deeply, so that the soil is thoroughly saturated, and then allow the plants to dry out a bit before watering again. In winter, only water the plants when the soil is completely dry and then give them just enough to moisten the soil.
sunlight
Lungwort (Pulmonaria rubra 'Ann') does best in partial shade, which is approximately 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. To achieve this, the plant should be placed where it will get morning sun and shade in the afternoon. It may be best to have the plant in an area with dappled shade, where the light is filtered and not direct. In an area with full sun the plant could be burned or scorched. This species also prefers cooler temperatures and has been known to flower better when lightly shaded.
pruning
Lungwort (Pulmonaria rubra 'Ann') is best pruned in late winter or early spring, just before new growth begins. Prune out any dead or damaged stems, cutting each stem back to the base. Remove any unruly stems or any that interfere with other desired shapes. If plants become crowded, thin out or divide them every 2-3 years to open up the center of the plant and promote new growth.
