Shrub roses require regular watering to ensure the flowers have plenty of moisture throughout the growing season. Water the base of the shrub rose bush at least twice a week. Water deeply and slowly to ensure the water has a chance to soak into the soil rather than running off. During hot, dry spells water the bush every 4 days instead of twice a week. During the growing season, supplement rainfall with additional water. Avoid getting the leaves wet when watering. If possible, water early in the morning to give the bush time to dry out before nightfall.

Shrub rose (Rosa 'Ausmary' MARY ROSE) requires approximately 6 to 8 hours of full, direct sunlight per day during its active growing period in spring and summer. During the fall and winter, the rose bushes should receive at least 4 hours of sunlight per day to ensure adequate growth. Morning sun is particularly beneficial for this variety of rose. To protect the plant from the intense heat of the afternoon sun, it may be useful to provide some light shade in the afternoon. Pruning should include removal of any dead or diseased stems, thinning out overcrowded canes, and trimming back overgrown stems to maintain a smaller size and form.
