Mexican petunia

Mexican petunia (Ruellia simplex 'Katie') is a drought-tolerant, low-maintenance perennial plant. It should be watered deeply and infrequently, about once per week but this may depend on the weather and soil conditions. It is best to water in the morning before the heat of the day so that the foliage has time to dry out. Soil should be allowed to dry out between watering sessions to prevent root rot. If the leaves begin to wilt or the ground feels dry an inch below the surface, it is time to water. Too much water can be detrimental to the plant. Over-watering will cause the foliage to become yellow and tender and could lead to root rot.

Mexican petunia (Ruellia simplex 'Katie') is a sun-loving plant that thrives in areas with full sun. It enjoys direct sunlight for 6 to 8 hours per day. This species also tolerates partial shade, but may not flower as prolifically as when grown in full sun. If planted in a spot with less direct sun, supplementing with artificial lighting may be necessary to promote flowering.
