watering
Stonecrop (Sedum 'Thundercloud') requires regular but shallow watering. During the growing season, from spring to fall, it needs about 1 to 2 inches of water once a week, or every 5 to 7 days. In the winter months, the plant needs much less water, only about once every 2 or 3 weeks, so keep an eye on the soil and only water when it begins to dry out. Make sure to water the Stonecrop near the base and not from above, as this could cause fungal problems.
sunlight
Stonecrop (Sedum 'Thundercloud') requires full sun for optimum growth. It should be grown in a location that gets at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Direct sunlight is important for this particular plant as it needs both the light and warmth to grow well and produce blooms. During winter months, a south or west-facing windowsill may provide enough light for the plant, however during summer months at least 6 hours of direct sunlight is recommended. If grown outdoors, it is best to place the plant in a spot that gets consistent direct sunlight throughout the day.
pruning
Stonecrop (Sedum 'Thundercloud') should be pruned in the early spring each year. Prune back the stems to about a third of their length to encourage the plant to grow bushier and keep its shape. Sedum 'Thundercloud' may also benefit from some light pruning during the summer months, to control growth and keep it looking neat. Deadheading is not essential, but may help to extend the bloom season.
