Royal catchfly prefers well-drained soils and should not remain too wet for long periods, so sparing watering is best. This species should only be watered when the soil has become dry. During hot weather, water every 7-10 days, and less often during cooler weather. For plants grown in the garden, water deeply and infrequently, allowing the top 5 inches of soil to dry before watering again.

This species can also handle some partial shade; however, it should generally receive more sunlight than shade throughout the day. Royal catchfly also prefers very warm climates, and needs temperatures of at least 60 degrees Fahrenheit for good growth.

Royal catchfly (Silene regia) should be pruned lightly to encourage bushiness and promote healthy growth.
