watering

Goldenrod (Solidago rigida) requires regular watering in order to adequately grow and thrive. Depending on the climate, goldenrod typically requires watering every 7-10 days. In warmer climates, while in bloom, goldenrod may require more frequent watering every 5-7 days due to increased evapotranspiration rates. When watering goldenrod, ensure that enough water is available for the entire root system and that the soil is moist (not soaked). Water deeply 1-2 times per week in the absence of rain, and avoid overwatering. Additionally, ensure that the soil is well-draining as goldenrod does not tolerate waterlogged soil.

sunlight

Goldenrod (Solidago rigida) enjoys full sun to partial shade, with at least 6 hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight each day. Morning sunlight is particularly beneficial, and afternoon sunlight can also be beneficial in cooler climates. However, in hot climates the afternoon sun should be avoided as it can scorch the plant. In the summer months, Goldenrod should be given at least some shade to protect it from the intense midday sun. The amount of sunlight goldenrod requires can vary from location to location, so it’s best to observe the plant closely and adjust the amount of sunlight it receives to suit the needs of the plant.

pruning

Goldenrod (Solidago rigida) should be pruned during spring, just after blooms have faded or in mid-summer. Pruning should be done by cutting back the stems to about 6 to 8 inches above the soil line to promote new vigourous growth. This will also encourage branching and a denser habit. It's important to not prune too much as it will prevent future blooms. Also, be sure to disinfect pruning shears between each use to prevent the spread of disease.
