Stokes' aster

Stokes' aster should be watered regularly, aiming to keep the soil moist but not saturated. During its growing season from late spring to early fall, water about once or twice a week, depending on your local climate and the amount of natural rainfall in your area. During the dormant season in winter, water it every other week. It is important not to let the soil dry out completely. During the hottest summer months, water it more frequently to ensure the soil remains moist.

Stokes' aster (Stokesia laevis 'Colorwheel') requires full sun exposure throughout the day to thrive. Plant the flowers in a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day for best results. Bright indirect light will work in the absence of direct sunlight, however, more sun will result in more vibrant blooms.

Stokes' aster should be pruned in early spring before new growth begins in order to promote bushier growth and a more abundant flowering season. When pruning, remove old, dead stems and any branches that are looking unhealthy or have been damaged by adverse weather conditions. Also, remove any branches that are overcrowding the plant and trim away any thin or long stems that are making the appearance of the plant lopsided. Doing this will help promote a nicely shaped bush with an abundance of blooms come summer.
