watering

For Toad Lilies, it's best to keep the soil consistently moist, so it should be watered 1 to 2 times a week or whenever the top couple inches of soil are dry. During the growing season water should be applied more heavily, and more often, than during the dormant season. Be careful not to waterlog the soil, however, as this may cause the roots to rot. If Toad Lilies are not watered enough, they may drop some of their flowers.

sunlight

Toad lily (Tricyrtis hirta 'Miyazaki') is a shade-loving plant that does best with bright, indirect sunlight. It can tolerate morning sun or very light afternoon sun for a few hours a day but should be protected from the hot afternoon sunlight. This type of sunlight helps it bloom and look its best. Too much sunlight can burn and dry out its foliage. For optimal growth, it should receive nearly full shade, preferably dappled sunlight for most of the day.

pruning

Toad lily (Tricyrtis hirta 'Miyazaki') does not require significant pruning, as it is all generally done when the plant flowers in early summer. It is best to conduct light pruning of these plants during the summer months, after flowering. Cut any dead, broken, or wasted flowering stems down to the base. You can also trim back any spent foliage if desired. Pruning will help keep the shape and size of your toad lily in check so that it does not outgrow its current space. Pruning should be done very gently as toad lilies have brittle stems. Take special care not to damage any new buds.
