watering

Fragrant snowball should be watered deeply about once or twice a week, depending on soil conditions. Water deeply until it is thoroughly moistened throughout the root zone. It is best to water the plant in the morning so that the foliage has time to dry during the day. As a general rule, avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Allow the top inch or 2 of the soil to dry before watering again.

sunlight

Fragrant snowball plants need moderate to bright light, or at least 4 hours of sunlight a day, in order to thrive. This plant prefers some shade in warmer climates, but if the temperatures become too hot, some afternoon shade should be provided. The best time for sunlight is early morning and late afternoon, or between the hours of 9am to 4pm, to allow the plant to capture the most sunlight without becoming stressed in the intense heat of midday. It should also be partially shaded on very hot afternoons.

pruning

Fragrant snowball should be pruned immediately after it blooms in late spring or early summer. This will encourage buds for the following year's blooms and also keep the shrub looking tidy. Prune to shape or thin the plant by removing 1/3 of the oldest branches. Remove shoots that are growing in the wrong direction, as well as any dead, diseased, or broken branches, and shoots weaker than the others. Take care not to cut off any flower buds. After pruning, some fertilizer can be applied to encourage bushier growth.
