watering

Rain lilies should be watered lightly around once a week or every other week. The amount of water should be minimal as rain lilies thrive on very little water. Use only enough water to barely moisten the soil and avoid overwatering. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. During the summer months, the plant will dry out faster and will need to be watered more frequently. During the winter months, it will need to be watered less often. When watering, be sure to water the soil and not the foliage to avoid any leaf burn.

sunlight

Rain lily (Zephyranthes 'Itsy Bitsy') plants prefer full sun to partial shade and bloom best in bright sunlight. In areas where temperatures stay moderate year-round, they can be grown in full sun with up to 7 hours of direct sunlight daily. In more extreme temperatures, they should be grown in a location that receives only a few hours of sunlight daily during the hottest part of the day. It is also important to keep the plants well-watered during the hottest and driest months.

pruning

For Rain Lilies, (Zephyranthes 'Itsy Bitsy') pruning should be done annually in late Spring to early Summer. This allows for the dead foliage to be removed and encourages healthy and abundant bloom in the following season. Prune the foliage back to about 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm) from the ground. This will keep the plant looking tidy without disrupting blooms. Be careful when pruning and avoid removing the flower buds themselves. Doing so may lead to a decrease in bloom the following year.
