When watering Variegated Moor Grass, it is important to irrigate lightly and deeply 1-2 times per week during its active growing season. Watering should be done with a watering can or sprinkler when the top few inches of soil have dried out to allow for deep penetration of moisture. Soil should also be well-draining, as Variegated Moor Grass does not like to sit in waterlogged soil. During its dormant winter months, the grass may need very little to no water, depending on climate and rainfall.

Variegated Moor Grass requires a full sun to part shade location in order to thrive. In all-day sun, it will grow and flower, but in part-shade, it will appear much less vibrant. Generally, 4-6 hours of sunlight daily is recommended for optimal growth and bloom. It should be noted, that when planted in full sun, Variegated Moor Grass needs more frequent watering, both to aid with growth and to prevent too much damage to the plants from the heat.

Variegated moor grass should be pruned once a year during late spring or early summer. Pruning should be done lightly, removing only dead and weak stems. Trim off any yellow or brown stems at the base of the plant, and any encroaching stems, to encourage new growth and keep the shape of the plant. Cutting off too much of the foliage can cause stress to the plant, so be sure to only prune off what is necessary for health and shape.
