watering
Yucca plants need to be watered regularly, but not too often. It is best to water a Yucca plant deeply but less often (about once a week depending on temperature and humidity). In the warm months (spring and summer), allow the soil in the pot to dry out a bit between waterings. During the winter, it is best to water more sparingly, usually once a month. Make sure to always use warm water to water the plant. Too much water can cause root rot, so make sure the soil is dry before watering again.
sunlight
Yucca filamentosa needs approximately 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. It should also be noted that this plant species can tolerate some partial shade, and so a south-facing window or protected outdoor area is a great spot to keep it. If Yucca filamentosa is grown outdoors, it is best to provide it with filtered sunlight in the afternoon, so its leaves aren't burned by the full force of the sun.
pruning
To keep your Yucca looking its best, prune it once a year or so in spring or early summer. Regular pruning will encourage lush foliage and prevent dangerous or unsightly dead growth. Start by removing any dead or damaged leaves or stems. If any leaves have brown tips, you can free the stems from them and discard. You should also trim back any sprouts or slips that are growing up from the bottom of the trunk. Carefully remove leaves and stems, making sure to cut as close to the trunk as possible without causing damage. This will help keep the plant’s overall shape neat and tidy. With some species of Yucca you may want to trim any flower stalks--these tend to decline after flowering and can be cut off close to the base. Prune off any excess long leaves that detract from the foliage form and as long as you don't remove more than a third of the plant from any pruning session, your yucca should be healthy and strong.
