Flat-Seed False-Flax

Flat-Seed False-Flax prefers a lightly moist soil that is well-drained. Water the plant when the top inch of soil is dry. Make sure to avoid over-watering by checking the moisture levels of the soil before you irrigate. Water your Flat-Seed False-Flax 2-3 times per week in the summer, and 1-2 times per week in the winter.

Flat-Seed False-Flax prefers full sun to partial shade and will perform best with 7-8 hours of direct sunlight each day. This species is very tolerant of drought and can resist midday heat. It will generally bloom from late spring to early summer and can flower off and on through the fall in some areas.

Flat-seeded false-flax should be pruned annually in late winter or early spring. This should be done before buds swell and new growth appears. Pruning should be done to keep the plants from becoming over-crowded and unruly. Remove any dead or diseased branches and shape the plant to the desired size and shape. The goal is to remove branches that are weak and overcrowded, taking care to leave enough foliage to maintain the overall health of the plant. Though the amount of pruning will vary from plant to plant, generally, it is best to prune back about 1 third of the plant.
