watering

Mackenzie's Sedge should be watered every 2-3 days, giving it anywhere between 1/2 to 1 inch of water in total each week, depending on the weather and the type of soil. For this species, it's best to water at ground level instead of from overhead, as this species prefers moist soil and doesn't do well in too much standing water. During dry weather, increase the amount of water given, but make sure the soil isn't overly saturated and isn't subject to pooling. Also try to water during the cooler parts of the day in order to reduce evaporation.

sunlight

Mackenzie's Sedge (Carex mackenziei) is a native plant species, endemic to the Pacific Northwest region of North America. It grows best in moist, acidic, acidic soils in sunny or partially shaded sites. This sedge prefers at least 4 hours of direct sunlight a day. It will tolerate partial shade, but the growth rate and vigor is diminished when it does not get enough sunlight. Mackenzie's Sedge can take full sun in the morning and sunshine during the afternoon, but its best to avoid direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day.

pruning

Mackenzie's Sedge should be pruned once a year in the late fall and early winter. Pruning should be done at around 8 inches above the ground, removing any dead or damaged foliage. Dead stalks should also be removed from the crown of the plant. After pruning, it is recommended to fertilize the now open soil with an appropriate fertilizer to encourage new growth. Pruning helps to keep the plant looking its best and encourages healthy growth.
