Daylilies require approximately 1 inch of water weekly, usually delivered in 1 or 2 irrigation applications. It is best to water deeply to penetrate the soil to a depth of 12 to 15 inches. It is not necessary to water every day as daylilies are tough and drought tolerant. However, when grown in sandy soils where water runs off more quickly, more frequent shallow watering may be required. Watering should be done in the early morning so that the foliage will be dry by nightfall. Over-watering can cause root rot and fungal diseases.

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Lavender Stardust') typically needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day in order to thrive and produce the best blooms. An ideal spot for this variety should offer full sun during the morning hours, with some light shade in the afternoon, to help protect it from the hottest and strongest rays of the sun. Some daylilies may also benefit from additional partial shade during the hottest part of the summer. As with most plants, the more sun this variety receives, the better it will bloom.

Pruning daylilies (Hemerocallis 'Lavender Stardust') should be done twice a year - once in early spring and once in the fall. Before pruning in early spring, cut off any foliage that is diseased or damaged by frost. In the fall, prune the plants after they have finished blooming. Cut off any dead or spent flower stalks at the base. Also, prune any brown foliage and leaves. To reduce the size of the clump, cut back some of the foliage to about 4 to 6 inches tall. This will help encourage new growth and promote additional blooms in the following season.
