Coleus plants should be watered once a week depending on how quickly the soil dries. It is important to check the soil moisture before each watering and water only when the top inch of soil feels dry. It is best to water the plant thoroughly, until water comes out of the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot. Make sure not to water too much as coleus plants are sensitive to overwatering. Too much water can cause root rot and can even kill the plant. It is recommended to water with room temperature water and to water in the morning or early evening to avoid hot sun on the leaves.

Coleus (Plectranthus COLORBLAZE LIME TIME) grows best in Partial Shade or Filtered Sunlight with 4-6 hours of direct sun daily. It’s best to provide the sun early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Too much direct sun exposure for prolonged period of time can burn and damage the foliage of this plant.

Coleus (Plectranthus colorblaze lime time) should be pruned at least once every season to promote new leaf and branch growth and to keep it looking its best. Pruning should begin when the plant is about 6 inches tall, or once it has filled in the small area it was planted in. For pruning, use sharp pruning shears (or pruning scissors) and cut back about 1-third of the stems that are at least 8 inches in length. Trim away any stems that are turning brown or yellow. After the first pruning, continue cutting back a third of the stems every month throughout the growing season. At the end of the season, perform a heavier pruning to control the size of the plant. This plant should not require extensive pruning, as it may become “leggy” if over-pruned.
