Short's goldenrod should be watered regularly but not excessively. Water the soil thoroughly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out slightly before watering again. The frequency of watering should be determined by the growing conditions of the plant. Water in the morning rather than late in the day so that water droplets do not sit on the leaves overnight. Short's goldenrod (Solidago shortii 'Solar Cascade') requires full sun for 5-6 hours a day to be able to thrive and produce its golden yellow blooms in late summer and early fall. To ensure that this plant species receives enough light, it should be planted in an area where it will get direct sunlight from mid morning until early afternoon. The best location to ensure this would be in an area facing south with a minimum of 6 hours of uninterrupted sunshine a day. Although the plant may survive in light shade, it is likely to produce fewer flowers and its growth may suffer in the long term.

Short’s goldenrod should be pruned once a year during its dormant season in the winter months. The best time to prune is just before the plant begins to produce new growth. Pruning should be kept to a minimum, as this variety of goldenrod is relatively short and does not require much pruning. To prune, simply cut back any dead or damaged stems at the base and remove any foliage that is discolored or withered. When finished, the plant will have a natural spreading mound shape. With some annual pruning, Short’s goldenrod should remain a healthy and attractive plant for many years.
