watering
Kapoktrees require a moderate amount of water to stay healthy. In the spring and summer months, they should be watered approximately once a week, amending the amount depending on the climate and temperature. During the autumn and winter months, watering should generally be reduced to approximately once every 2 weeks. During periods of drought, be sure to increase the frequency of watering to maintain healthy soil moisture. Above all, try to avoid over-watering, as excess water can cause root rot and other serious issues.
sunlight
The kapoktree (Ceiba pentandra) requires full sunlight for optimal growth and health. The best exposure would be at least 8 hours of direct sunlight each day. During the winter months, when sunlight is more limited, it is especially important to provide adequate sunlight exposure for the tree.
pruning
Kapoktree should be pruned during the winter season, when the tree is dormant. Prune only as much as necessary to maintain the desired shape and size, as over-pruning can lead to reduced vigor. Ideally, aim to keep an equal distribution of new and mature growth around the tree. Remove any dead, diseased, or crossing branches, as well as any branches growing inward or in undesirable directions. Leave enough small laterals for future growth.
