Watering for giant elephant's ear plants should be done once to twice on a weekly basis, and each watering should be deep enough to moisten the soil. The soil should generally remain moist throughout the growing season, but not overly soaked. During periods of extreme heat or drought, giant elephant's ears may need to be watered more frequently. This plant grows best in the warmer months from late spring through summer, when the sun is at its highest and temperatures are highest. From late summer through winter, it should get indirect sunlight from a nearby windowsill or other bright spot.

For the giant elephant's ear, pruning should be done in the spring and summer. Prune back just the tips of growing stems to encourage healthy, bushy new growth and help contain the plant’s size.
