watering

Ruby grass is a fast-growing warm-season grass that loves to be watered. Water ruby grass deeply but infrequently to avoid damage or disease from insufficient water or overwatering. The best practice is to provide deep watering once a week for the first month or so after planting and then once every 5-7 days. Water deeply enough that the soil is moistened down to about 18-24 inches. During periods of intense heat, more frequent watering may be needed. Additionally, during drought conditions, provide about 1 inch of water per week.

sunlight

Ruby grass requires full sun for best growth and flowering. When grown in optimal conditions, it prefers 6-8 hours of direct sunlight a day. The amount of sunlight should decrease gradually in the fall as the days become shorter.

pruning

The Ruby Grass should be pruned back 2-4 times a year. Pruning should be done in late winter, late spring, late summer, and late fall. Each time the grass is cut back, the remaining growth should be no longer than 8-10 inches in height. Be sure to remove any broken, dead or discolored foliage or blades from the plant. Pruning not only keeps the grass looking its best but also encourages new growth.
