watering

Water celery (Oenanthe javanica 'Flamingo') should be watered often but sparingly. It needs consistent moisture but should never be allowed to sit in standing water. A general rule is to water the plant heavily once a week during periods of active growth, usually in the summer. In the winter, the plant should be watered less frequently, no more than bi-weekly. Make sure to check the soil to ensure it is neither dry nor waterlogged. If the soil is dry to the touch, give the plant a thorough watering and let it drain completely. If the soil is overly soggy, allow it to dry out before watering again.

sunlight

Water celery (Oenanthe javanica 'Flamingo') requires full sun, or direct sunlight, for at least 6 hours per day. This plant does best in areas that receive full sun exposure during the entire growing season. If the water celery is growing in a partially shaded area, it should receive more sunlight during the peak of the day, which is between 10am and 4pm. Water celery also benefits from being placed in an area with warm temperatures and good air circulation.

pruning

Water celery (Oenanthe javanica 'Flamingo') should be pruned twice a year, once in the early spring and again in the late summer. In early spring, trim the plant back by about a third. Cut back stalks to 1-2 inches from the crown, and remove any dead or damaged shoots. During late summer pruning, again cut back stalks to 1 to 2 inches from the crown, but only remove up to 2/3 of the foliage. Pruning more than this during the late summer months can stunt its growth.
