watering

Miniature roses need to be watered 1-2 times a week, depending on the weather conditions. If the surrounding air is particularly dry, an extra watering might be necessary. When watering, ensure the soil is kept consistently moist without becoming soggy. When it's very hot outside, the plant may need more water than usual. To check if the rose needs water, stick your finger into the soil of the pot--if the top 1 to 2 inches feels dry, it is time to water.

sunlight

Miniature rose (Rosa 'Ruimired' RED MINIMO) needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day in order to stay healthy and bloom. The best time for this species to receive sunlight is during the mid to late morning hours when the sun is most intense and the air temperature is comfortable. However, as temperatures start to warm up in the afternoon, the miniature rose will need some protection from the strong afternoon sunlight in order for it able to retain its vibrant blooms. Too much sunlight can cause the flowers to burn and turn brown.

pruning

Miniature roses should be pruned annually in late winter or early spring, typically between late February and early April. A light pruning should be enough, removing any dead or diseased canes and thinning out some of the leaf-covered canes to improve air circulation and sun exposure. It is best to remove just 1/4 to 1/3 of the canes of a miniature rose, claiming any particularly long or weak canes. These pruned canes can be disposed of or used for rooting new plants. It is also important to shape the plant, so remove any canes that are growing off in an awkward direction. Finish pruning by removing any foliage down to about 2 inches above the bud eyes on each branch.
