watering

Eulalia should be watered thoroughly every 7-10 days. It may require more frequent watering in warmer months and less in the cooler months. To water, soak the soil until it is saturated. You do not need to water Eulalia after every rainfall unless there has been an extended period of dry weather. Soil should not remain soggy, however, as this can put stress on the plant. An easy way to tell if your Eulalia needs water is to observe the soil. If the soil feels dry, it’s time to water.

sunlight

Eulalia (Miscanthus sinensis 'Rigoletto') prefers to receive full sun, meaning a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight each day for optimal growth and flowering. It may tolerate some morning or late afternoon shade in very hot climates, but will still grow best in full sun.

pruning

Eulalia (Miscanthus sinensis 'Rigoletto') should be pruned twice annually, once in the late spring and once in the late summer. During the late spring pruning, cut any existing stems down to the ground. During the late summer pruning, prune stems back to desired height. To do so, locate the new growth at the base of the clump and prune the stems above it until the desired height is reached. Eulalia should not be pruned after this late summer pruning, as any additional pruning can cause damage to the plant.
