watering

Ice plant requires regular watering, especially during the summer growing season. Water deeply when the soil is dry to the touch, approximately once every 1-2 weeks. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. If grown in hot summer temperatures, it may require more frequent watering. Avoid overwatering as this species is susceptible to root rot. During the winter months, reduce the frequency of watering, but never allow the soil to dry out completely.

sunlight

Ice plants prefer at least 6 hours of sunlight a day, but the best sunlight for Delosperma rogersii 'Mini Wine' is full sun, meaning 8 to 10 hours of direct sun a day. This is especially true in the warm summer season, as this is the time when the plant will grow, flower and flourish. In cooler climates, Delosperma rogersii 'Mini Wine' can manage with less sun than what is necessary in hot climates.

pruning

Ice plant (Delosperma rogersii 'Mini Wine) should be pruned twice a year, once in early spring just before new growth begins, and again in mid to late summer after blooming has finished. Pruning in early spring will remove any dead branches, and create an open, airy shape. Pruning in mid to late summer should be more severe, removing any woody stems that have grown past their blooming prime, and any weak or deformed branches. This will help with airflow and encourage strong, healthy regrowth. When pruning expect to remove no more than 1 third of the total branches at a time and avoid cutting into woody stems as this may damage the plant. Additionally, it is best to maintain your ice plant at a manageable size by reducing the overall length of each stem.
