Tall fescue (Festuca 'Cool as Ice') should typically be watered once per week, or more often if the soil feels dry. Water deeply, providing enough water to moisten the entire root system, but avoid overwatering. In general about 1-2 inches of water should be supplied each time, allowing the soil to dry out slightly in between waterings. During hot, dry periods, extra water may be necessary. Water in the mornings, when temperatures are cooler, to help minimize disease.

This is usually in late March or early April but will depend on where you live. Start by removing dead or damaged leaves, as well as yellowing and browning foliage. If the grass has outgrown its allotted space, shear the grass blades by using manual or electric shears. Shearing should be done lightly at a diagonal angle to the stem of the grass. Too much shearing can damage the fescue and limit its growth. It is best to do minimal pruning as too much can often lead to increased thatch.
