In areas where rain is scarce, you may need to water your tree once a week. When humid conditions are prevalent, your tree may need to be watered every 2 or 3 weeks. In hotter and dryer climates, water your European ash more frequently.

It is best to synch with the natural light cycle and schedule outdoor time during the early morning (6 am - 10 am) and afternoon hours (2 pm - 6 pm). Too much direct sunlight during the hotter periods of the day (10 am - 2 pm) can be harmful for the plant.

Pruning for European ash (Fraxinus excelsior 'Hessei') should be done once a year, in early spring, just as the buds are beginning to swell. Make sure it is a dry day and the branches should be pruned back to 30-50cm from the ground, making sure not to leave any shoots too long. If there are any dead, diseased or damaged branches, they should be pruned out at this time. If any later pruning is done, care should be taken to follow the natural form of the tree and not remove too much foliage.
