watering

This hellebore species should be watered once weekly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between watering. During the hottest months in the summer, increase watering to twice a week. When the weather is cooler in the winter months, decrease watering to every other week (or every 3 weeks if the soil is very well draining). Make sure to check the soil moisture before watering; if the soil is still moist, wait until it is drier before watering again.

sunlight

Hellebore 'Brushstrokes Strain' should receive plenty of indirect sunlight and at least 4-6 hours of bright, indirect light in order to thrive. While it may require less light in the winter, it should still receive a few hours of indirect light each day. Additionally, the plant should be kept out of direct sunlight for most of the day, as direct sunlight can cause leaf burn or cause the blooms to fade. In brighter rooms, it may benefit from a sheer curtain to help filter the light and keep it in the indirect zone.

pruning

Hellebore 'Brushstrokes Strain' should be pruned once a year, typically in late winter or early spring, before new growth begins. Make sure to cut off any dead leaves, stems, flowers, and seeds. To promote thicker, more compact growth, prune the plant lightly, removing no more than 1/3 of the overall growth, focusing on the oldest stems first. Removing old stems encourages the development of new stems that will produce fuller, bushier plants. Be sure to use pruning shears or scissors to keep the cut clean and sharp for the health of the plant.
