watering

Water Coral Bells (Heuchera americana 'Ring of Fire') deeply once a week in the summertime and every 10 days during the cooler months. The soil should be allowed to dry out between waterings. Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid overwatering, especially during winter months. To avoid root rot, soil should never be soggy for long periods of time. Fertilize twice a year in spring and summer with a liquid fertilizer or feed with a slow-release fertilizer.

sunlight

Coral bells require at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day in order to thrive. Too little sun (or too much) will weaken the plants. When grown in sunny spots, they can tolerate full sun in the morning but should be provided with shade for the hottest parts of the day. However, they can also be grown in partially shaded areas such as under trees or on the north side of buildings. In these cases, they may need slightly less sunlight and should be given full sun for only 4 to 6 hours each day.

pruning

Coral bells can be pruned at any time of year. However, in the spring, before the plant begins to grow, is the best time to prune. This will help to keep the plant bushy and full of blooms. Prune the plant back to between 4-6 inches to help promote healthy new growth. Remove any old or damaged leaves to reduce disease and insect infestation. Keep in mind that pruning too much will reduce the plant’s blooming potential.
